Your Training History Matters More Than You Think
What You’re Doing Now Isn’t the Whole Story.
Ever looked at someone excelling in their sport and thought, I just need to train like them? You’re not alone. But here’s the catch: their current training isn’t necessarily what built their foundation.
Your entire training history contributes to where you are today. It’s not just your last training block, but everything that came before it.
The Recency Bias Trap.
A common mistake is assuming that what someone is doing now is responsible for their success. But often, their results were built over years of a completely different approach.
Consider these examples:
• The huge ripped CrossFitter – Once a dedicated bodybuilder, now thriving in functional fitness (and looking great).
• The surprising Hyrox beast – An elite rower before becoming picking up running in class.
• The weightlifter with insane mobility – Years of gymnastics before picking up a barbell.
Sure, their current training refines their abilities, but it’s their history that set the foundation.
Takeaway: Look Beyond the Surface
This isn’t about discrediting achievements—it’s about understanding that long-term development plays a huge role. If you want to progress, don’t just mimic what someone is doing now. Instead, look at the bigger picture:
✅ What built their foundation?
✅ How does their past training contribute to their current strengths?
✅ What gaps in your history need addressing?
Success in training is rarely about a single programme. It’s about years of accumulated effort.
Rather than thinking "they do this and they perform/look like that" - I would encourage you to think "I want to do this, what Training Stimulus is going to move ME one step in that direction"
